Session Highlights

This video contains excerpts from the 2004 Minnesota State Senate Session when the Marriage Amendment bill was originally introduced.  This video provides just a few examples of the tactics used by DFL Senate majority leadership to block the bill from coming to a vote on the floor of the Senate.  These tactics included prematurely adjourning committee meetings, ignoring the bill sponsors' requests to be recognized in general sessions, manipulating parliamentary procedures to control the direct of the session, and introducing an alternative amendment bill that did nothing to define marriage.  These same tactics were used during the 2005 session to once again block the bill.
